Externally Managed Products
Release Date Jul 15, 2025
Overview
What
Allowing our partners to view and add their own products to a Proposal.
This does not allow partners to create their own products in Ui.Marketing.
Who
Partners looking to see their “owned and operated” products within Ui.Marketing including Proposals and eventually Orders.
Why
Many partners are hesitant to use our proposal tool because it doesn't support selling both their products and ours. By adding this feature, we can provide them with a single tool for all the products they offer advertisers.
Example
A partner who is a newspaper company wants to use our proposal tool to sell to advertisers that includes both digital (our products) and newspaper print products (their owned and operated).
Walkthrough
Creating External Products
Managed By vs Owned By
When creating and viewing these new products, you will see two new fields: Owned By and Managed By.
Owned By
This is indicative of who “owns” the product. This could be a specific hierarchy or AdCellerant. Ask yourself, who should this product show for? If it is specific to one hierarchy, then typically that hierarchy will own it. If it is an AdCellerant product that all partners receive, it is AdCellerant-owned.
In its current state, all default products are AdCellerant-owned. This field cannot be edited and is set by default.
Managed By
This is indicative of who “runs” or “manages” the operations for this product. This could be a specific hierarchy or AdCellerant. Ask yourself, who is going to be setting up and managing all aspects of this line item?
Below are some examples to help!
Owned By | Managed By | Example |
---|---|---|
AdCellerant | AdCellerant | This represents our current products that we typically run. For example, display competitive. These products are associated with the ADC organization and will be associated with all new and existing partners. They will show on the ADC organizational hierarchy, and all default rates are set there. |
Partner | AdCellerant | An existing partner has products that are specific to their hierarchy, but AdCellerant manages (example: Cumulus Products) In this scenario, we do not want these products shown or enabled for any other hierarchy and ADC is running them on their behalf. Please note Cumulus products are not currently set up this way, but products like this could be set up this way in the future. |
Partner | Partner | An existing partner has products that are specific to their hierarchy, and they manage it themselves (for example, a newspaper company running print ads)
|
Creating External Products in Settings
When creating externally managed products, these are created within the Partner who is “owner” of the product.
These products only apply to the partner and will not show on any other hierarchy
All rates and information set get inherited down to all underlying hierarchies

There may be situations in the future when we are fully SaaS that enable these products differently. These are not available today, but examples of how they could work:
Future SaaS example: Another organization other than AdCellerant has been created. They have their own products that they manage and own
Owned by
: Hierarchy ID for the new orgManaged by:
Hierarchy ID for the new org
Future SaaS example: Another organization other than AdCellerant has been created. They have their own products but want a specific product to be managed by AdCellerant. (example: org owns the product but sends it to AdCell to be managed)
Owned by
: Hierarchy ID for the new orgManaged by:
Hierarchy ID of 1 (Adcellerant)
External Products on Proposals
Once the product(s) have been set up, they will show in the proposal tool for any advertiser under that partner.
These products function the same as existing products; any default rates and minimums will show here
If a division has the product disabled or custom rates set, those should carry down to all underlying advertisers
Only products that the partner has enabled will show
These products will show in the order create workflow in a similar way.
The goal is for these products to look and feel the same as our existing products.
All products will show on the PowerPoint export. All products show under the “Additional Products” grouping per the example above.
External Products on Orders
Once the proposal or order is submitted, all line items that are managed by a partner will get marked as “sold” and cannot be edited
From the order view, you can see who the product manager is, AdCellerant or [Partner Name]
There will be no in-line editing on these products and no bulk messaging
On the line item views, partners can still view the line items, change the line item names, and add in external IDs, but no other aspects can be updated.
Users can also filter by these products on the line item table by choosing “Product Manager”. For external users, only “AdCellerant” and the partner name will show as options.
